ID Ensemble marks his full Monog release with the fantastic Unsound EP. We first got a glimpse of this guy a few months back when he delivered a tight remix on HedUbble - Looking Into EP. Also known as Filip Kaczmarek, he believes that every note has a perfect place in musical composition. Filip's productions used to have a very distinctive percussion sound, easy to spot, easy to remember. This is where ID Ensemble steps in, it's one of the few projects which Filip runs in parallel, although this one is heavily influenced by the Berlin sound. It was created as an expression of the need to break free from the previous musical badge, he felt a great urge to explore new sounds and constantly develop as an artist.
Berlin based Portuguese DJ and producer Jepe returns to Monog and delivers his 80's Disco Mix on Lost. Last time we saw this guy here was back in 2017 on his excellent and well received Utopian EP. He started out in 1994 on local radio stations in Portugal, which led to his first residency in the Estacao La Luz club, a residency he has held since 1997. He got into production and has released on many top labels including Let's Play House, Circle Music, Cecille Records, Brown Eyed Boyz, Beef Records and Get Physical as well as his own label, Blossom Kollektiv. Jepe's style really shines here on the remix as we're treated to an 80's inspired groove filled with warm analogue basses, disco strings and a mesmerizing vocal. The bassline chugs along against a rhythmic drum section with a nice chunky kick drum at the fore. The combination of high strings and contrasting lower frequencies makes this a dynamic slice perfect for the upbeat sets.
The Original Mix of Lost intros with a punchy kick drum and pitching percussions. Simple vocal shots ring out as the shuffling hi hats get the rhythm moving. A minimal vibe comes through before retro house style pianos fade in alongside a haunting pad. The pianos and warm chords take full control of the groove making it a perfectly tweaked dancefloor destroyer.
Randy sets off with a gnarly kick drum and chilling pad combi which is soon joined by sharp claps and rising percussions. The kicks fall into 4 x 4 mode effortlessly, delivering a solid thump alongside those raucous percussions. Scathing stabs that carry a hybrid techno-house style grab the headlines and giving the track a nostalgic vibe in the process. A real pumping joint that will most definitely not disappoint.
Unsound intros with a very nice, well rounded kick drum that lulls us onto the floor. A simple vocal shot adds intrigue as filtered chords begin to rise. Shuffling hi hats get the rhythm flowing as the vocal gets a cool echo effect. A seemingly nondescript bassline lurks on the low end, enough to feel a presence while allowing the higher frequencies to dominate. Thanks to those infectious piano chords, this one really hits the spot and will become a go to track for many no doubt.
