ID155 Sidney Charles - Dub Trap
Intec Digital

Out now on Beatport https://www.beatport.com/release/dub-trap/2303746 Carl Cox is an industry figurehead whos legacy in music includes his iconic label Intec, which he runs with friend and business partner Jon Rundell. A German living in Portugal, the new Intec release is from Sidney Charles who has only been releasing music since 2011, but in that time built up a back catalogue including music signed to Truesoul, Moon Harbour, Hot Creations, Relief, 8Bit and Defected. Sidney Charles eclectic sound is often focused towards house music, but as a skilled producer, he also incorporated elements of techno when he wants to toughen things up a bit, and his new release on Intec is a fine example of this. Having originally started his career as a DJ, Sidney Charles is also a highly sought after club spinner, with a gig list that in the coming months will see him play everywhere from the Netherlands to Malta. This is Sidney's second solo release on Intec having last appeared on the label in 2016, and fans will be pleased to know his follow up has been well worth the wait. The EP opens with the original mix of Get Together that at first sounds like a house groove with a rolling bassline and tight percussion, but its heavy kick drum and looping rhythms along with the deep synth stabs, move it over to the deep techno category. The perfect crossover tool, its moody sound and low end energy will no doubt make it a popular DJs choice for switching up the style of a set. Second on the release is Dub Trap, which takes us down a deeper path with jazzy chords that add to the jacking groove. Where the first track incorporates elements of techno, this track is very much the sound Sidney Charles is known for. Chic and full of character, this tech house cut is something that some might not expect from Intec, but reminds us of Carl Cox's eclectic taste when it comes to playing and signing music.

ID153 1. Chip E & Carl Cox - Time to Jack - Back 2 Jack 2018
Intec Digital

Out now on Beatport https://www.beatport.com/release/back-2-jack-2018-versions/2280206 The latest Intec release is a special package in honour of a true house classic originally released at the birth of the genre in 1985, and that features two new reworked versions of Chip E’s anthemic track “Time To Jack”. Created in collaboration with Chip E, the two new versions have been produced by label boss Carl Cox titled “Back 2 Jack” and pay homage to the iconic vocal, which should be instantly familiar to house fans of all generations. Anyone who has ever watched or read a documentary covering the history of house music will know how influential Chip E’s original was, as many accredit it with being one of the records that coined the term “Jacking”. Reworking a classic so iconic arguably takes an icon to do it, and working on that logic, Carl Cox is the obvious man for the job. Starting with a solid kick drum as the track's foundation, Carl's updated version is all around bigger and with a booming sound. It stays true to the original, keeping the bassline and vocals but also bringing the production up to date with a thickened sound, adding some aggressive modulation to the instantly recognisable bass hook. Re-recording the vocal has also given it some added presence and really brought out the commanding intensity that many know and love and has done it in a respectful way that compliments a piece of music now over thirty years old.

Intec's new release is from UMEK who is a Slovenian artist accredited with kick-starting the techno scene in his home country, before earning critical acclaim on a global scale when he first started his career in the 90s. Having also collaborated with many influential figures such as Chris Liebing and Joey Beltram, this new solo EP is UMEKs third release on Intec. Titled Percussionix the EP opens with (Mix 1) which centres around a thick set bassline cut with filter sweeps and full of menacing intent. Leading the track is a combination of tribal percussion loops, which provide the track's main driving force. Track two is UMEKs alternative mix of Percussionix which titled (Mix 2) has a more refined sound with the raw edges of the percussion being rounded off to smooth the sound, and its bassline is left unfiltered so it becomes more of a gradual sweep that grows with building tension.
