Justin Coulson tells Maggie Dent how to get kids to listen & avoid 'puffer-fish parenting'
MaggieDentAuthor

In this audio clip Australian parenting author Maggie Dent asks her colleague Dr Justin Coulson his views on how we as parents can get our children to do what is reasonably expected of them ... and to give his best advice on the 'big D', discipline. Dr Justin explains why he thinks that our natural reactions to our children's challenging behaviour are almost always unhelpful, unhealthy and typically ineffective and wrong. Maggie and Dr Justin are presenting together at the RAISING CHILDREN WHO SHINE: EXPLORING CHILDHOOD FROM TODDLERS TO 10-YEAR OLDS in Perth, Brisbane and Sydney in March 2018. They will be joined by author of "Discipline Without Damage" Dr Vanessa LaPointe from Canada and Australian digital wellbeing expert and author of "Raising Your Kids in a Digital World" Dr Kristy Goodwin. Find out more at: www.maggiedent.com/raising-children-who-shine *This audio clip was originally recorded as part of a longer chat that Maggie and Dr Justin had in 2014, which forms part of her online course: 9 Things: A back-to-basics guide to calm, common-sense, connected parenting and care birth-8 (www.commonsenseparenting.com.au)

Creating Success sample - "Release release release"
MaggieDentAuthor

Sample from Maggie's track: Creating Success http://www.maggiedent.com/shop/creating-success Success comes from within and it is something that we can fine tune throughout our lives. In this 10-minute creative visualisation audio for adolescents and adults alike Maggie uses colour and breath to encourage listeners to release any doubt, confusion and anxiety they are feeling. She then guides them to fill their cups with a sense of being calm, confident and capable. The audio gives listeners a tool they can use whenever they feel an ANT attack coming on (that’s Automatic Negative Thoughts - which can hit teens' developing brains in particular, more than they hit the rest of us). Practising this technique can help bring listeners back to feeling grounded and calm. The final part of the audio assists with goal setting, by visualising themselves after they have succeeded. This technique is called creative visualisation and has been used by elite athletes for many years to enhance performance. This track is a perfect tool for helping anyone dream big and for supporting them day-to-day in feeling centred and capable of achieving their goals. It can help anyone who has sporting goals, artistic goals or even health goals as well as academic goals - or just focusing on passing a driving test. Having a clear mental focus that we keep stoking is the best way to manifest dreams and goals!!
