IVAN KNIGHT

The final song on this album was meant to be the big opera esk finish to this album, my equivalent to a “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Lyrically, this song is about how anxious and isolated I feel in my bedroom and would rather be out there in the big world, but the only person stopping me from doing so is me. The orchestral sound is inspired by David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and the chorus’s keyboard melody was also inspired by Twenty One Pilots’ “Trees”. Their other song “Ode to Sleep” inspired this song’s necessity to shift between tempos constantly. At the end of the song I decided to add a homage to Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” one of the greatest songs of all time. The final a cappella segment and the final recording of me clearing everything up and closing the door is to symbolise the end of this album and moving on to do bigger and better projects. I hope you enjoy!

A Body Made Of Organs
IVAN KNIGHT

This is another demo for the original LP that didn’t make it onto the first album. I personally felt the previous album felt monotonous with it’s use of Organs, so I decided to condense it all into one track itself which is nothing but Organs. I hope you enjoy!

Joe
IVAN KNIGHT

This is a song that is a tribute to my first ever dog “Joe”. Lyrically it’s about how I’d rather not think about him because I still miss and am not over his passing, like how most people can’t get over losses so they’d rather think about something else. I decided to make it more sad but also more progressive, I’d the song half way for a long moody piano solo. The tune is inspired by Pink Floyd’s “Us and Them” and the sound itself was inspired by Twenty One Pilots cover of “Cancer” by My Chemical Romance, a song that I’m not particularly fond of, but I thought the depressing minimalist electronic sound would be perfect for this song. I hope you enjoy!

Dreaming About Movies
IVAN KNIGHT

This is a track that is based on another demo track that never made it onto the original LP. This orchestral instrumental is also based on the works of Vangelis, simplistic and repetitive to the point that it’s hypnotic. The piano melody is inspired by Genesis’s “Mad Man Moon”. I hope you enjoy!

Frog's Return
IVAN KNIGHT

This was originally going to be the opening track to the album, but when I decided to redo Frog Rock, I decided this would be the perfect opening track for Side Two of the LP. This ia another dance track was made to symbolise the evolution of my music, moving on from the past synth prog tracks and doing something new. Blending elements of house and psychedelic synths you’d most likely hear on a Tame Impala song. I hope you enjoy!

Off The Rails
IVAN KNIGHT

Now this is a song that has gone through the most changed. Originally, it was a song with a tempo change in the middle and a piano melody that was inspired by a later track “A Body Made of Organs”, this piano melody eventually turns into violent improv to symbolise a traditional pop song that goes off the rails. Later though I removed the tempo change to make the tune more simplistic. I then decided not to rhyme any of the lyrics and rap them like I was reading a poem or a story frantically. This style of frantic rapping was inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s “U” and the relaxed beat sound that contrasts this is inspired by David Gray’s “Please Forgive Me”. This once again symbolises a song that eventually goes off the rails. I hope you enjoy!

Say Hello To The Pierrot (Living Room Symphony Edition)
IVAN KNIGHT

This is another song from the previous LP to get a new update. This time, I decided to give a New Wave sound, inspired by Video Killed The Radio Star. New features include a more prominent drum track, a different vocal bridge and the xylophone is replaced with a synth keyboard solo and a harp to add to the psychedelic synths. This is a version of the track I much prefer over the last. Enjoy!

I Felt Like Coming Back To You
IVAN KNIGHT

This is a demo for my original LP that I ended up not using, but given how well it fits with the next track and it’s Bladerunner inspiration, I thought this demo would fit perfectly as an interlude track for this LP. I hope you Enjoy!

Power Plant Mind (Living Room Symphony Edition)
IVAN KNIGHT

This is another song from my old LP that is getting a new update, POWER PLANT MIND! I decided to give this once rock-ish anthem a dubstep inspired electro dance sound, with an opening inspired by the underrated David Bowie track “I’m Deranged”, a guitar solo to replace the xylophone from the original track and a new ending packed with chopped vocals, I hope you enjoy this new update.

Brother John
IVAN KNIGHT

This is the first new song in this LP, BROTHER JOHN! Lyrically, this song is about a new persona I’ve created. The idea is that I find it hard to act confident and hear the sound of my own voice, so I pretend to be my own brother in order to act like a superstar. The music mainly had two inspirations, one was the video game level “Grand Metropolis” from Sonic Heroes, mainly for it’s utopian sound and also because I love video game/chip-tune music. The other music inspiration is Twenty One Pilot’s “Trees” which inspired the loud drum rhythms at the end to add that grandiose atmosphere to finish the song off. I hope you enjoy!

Frog Rock (Living Room Symphony Edition)
IVAN KNIGHT

Here is a new version of a previous song from my last LP, FROG ROCK! This time it has been updated with a new electronic sound, blending elements of chiptune, ambient and electro house. This is done to refine the definitive Ivan Knight sound within one opening instrumental. The major difference between the two versions is the new ending to this edition. I hope you enjoy!

Celebration (instrumental)
IVAN KNIGHT

This is an instrumental I did for my good friend Rob from Cinematic Venom. It's a reprise of a tune I did in my first album, but done with a hip hop spin.

Be Concerned (COVER)
IVAN KNIGHT

This is my cover of Twenty One Pilot's "Be Concerned". I wanted to take a least favourite song of one of my favourite artists to try and improve on it, I never got why people would want to cover something that's already good.

Tell Me How You Feel
IVAN KNIGHT

This is a song for an arts competition that may or may not be on my next album. It has a reggae flair as well as lyrics about coming together. Enjoy. :)

Cutting the Cliff.
IVAN KNIGHT

This song was created out of improvisation on the piano that was somewhat inspired by Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", hence the eeriness and simplicity of the overall tune. The start of it reprising moments of "I'm Not a MouthMan!" was done to get a sense of the album coming full circle, that the first and last track were somehow linked. The keyboard itself goes through many sounds (piano, synth, organ) to give the feeling of life flashing before your eyes. The trash compactor in the beginning signifies the idea of destruction as this song exists to end the album. I do everything I can to make it sound like the world is ending. Being one of the only songs on the album not to fade out; this song is a giant full stop (hence the full stop in the title). Enjoy!

Say Hello to the Pierrot
IVAN KNIGHT

This track is very special to me. The lyrics are about an imaginary friend I used to have and how the dreamer needs to wake up and live in the real world if he wants to solve his problems. Only the point of view of the song is the imaginary friend and he's telling the dreamer to wake up. The music is mainly inspired by two things, Steam Powered Giraffe and Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight". SPG inspired the swing groove to it and the barbour shop esk vocals in the chorus. However, although I was happy with the laid back electro pop sound, I felt like there needed to be an "unff" to the track. So, like In The Air Tonight, I decided to have a drum fill near the end cut off the drum machine and have powerful natural sounding drums throughout the rest of the song. I then decided last minute, to emulate the feeling of scizophrenia, to have multiple voices talking at once as the song ended. I hope you enjoy.

Losing His Sanity
IVAN KNIGHT

This track was originally going to be the first half to the next track, but I thought that would be too similar to "Romantic Space" in terms of structure and decided to make this a solo interlude. The whole goal was to make you feel brutally assaulted by the music, like the music grabbed you, shook you violently and then threw you in a river. So this track is manic, with improvised piano and crazy bongos. This is the most primal song I'll probably ever make so I hope you enjoy it.

Power Plant Mind
IVAN KNIGHT

This was basically an after thought of a song. Inspired by Chemical Plant zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, this is a simple rock infused dance track that's similar to Frog Rock in some respects. However, this one has lyrics! The lyrics are simply about my autism and how it's sometimes very difficult living with a brain disorder, however, I'm not going to let it stop who I want to be. That's the song in a nutshell. Another influence I guess would be Twenty One Pilot's "Heavydirtysoul" with it's industrial esk vibe and fade in drum machine. Enjoy!

The Planet of Imaginary Friends
IVAN KNIGHT

This song has a weird inception. I knew I wanted the title track to be the gritty rock song of the album and I wanted it to be theatrical, so I thought the chorus could be a homage of Phantom of the Opera, seeing how that song is influenced by Pink Floyd, which is a big inspiration of mine. I filled in the verses with a bass line I came up with and fitted it into a time signature inspired by the progressive pop single "Turn it On Again" by Genesis. The lyrics were wrote when I'm drunk, with a bunch of pop culture references even I barely understand anymore. I decided I wanted to have the song be like my equivalent of Steve Hackett's "Every Day" where all the song-y parts are at the beginning and the rest of the song is just instrumentation. Not knowing what to fill the rest of the song with, I improvised most of it, I then added in a tune which was originally going to be it's own track but decided not to around about the 3:49 mark. Enjoy! PS: the recording in the opening is this buzzer thing at school that doesn't shut up and I thought it sounded like one of the many tunes in this and decided to include this.

Frog Rock
IVAN KNIGHT

This was based off a hip hop song I heard in my dream. However, I decided to make it an instrumental as not only am I not a very good rapper, but the only lyric I remembered anyway was "This shit just hit the fan!". Not very exciting Lol. I was inspired by Genesis's "Keep it Dark" to have everything be out of time in the first segment. Then everything comes together after the beat drop near the end. I then decided to go ballistic on the drums as inspired by Twenty One Pilots "Ride" being performed live. I thought why they didn't just do that in the album version as it sounded so cool, i decided not to make the same mistake. I hope you enjoy.
