For this second instalment of Cabinet of Curiosities we have a soothing selection of all things Jazz. Ranging from the dusty live performances of Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott and Lionel Hampton, to British Jazz Funk of the late 70s, before moving into newer variations of Jazz, perhaps a bit of acid jazz before finishing off with a few oddballs. Enjoy
Valentines Day is only a day out of the year but love lasts forever... This is a jazz standard that I covered w/a touch of R&B. Thanks for listening. --BKBMusix

Solid Steel (2nd February) This week it's an Alpha Pup Records takeover with an extended show lead by Ronald Bruner Jr., a Grammy award-winning jazz drummer, composer and producer who began his professional career at the age of 15, performing with the Theolonius Monk Institute, which opened doors to perform with many great artists such as Wayne Shorter, Dianne Reeves, Ron Carter, and others. At the age of eighteen, Ronald Bruner Jr. began performing with jazz legend Kenny Garrett. Since then, Ronald’s career has excelled at a rapid rate, encompassing jazz to punk rock, which eventually put him in the company of the band Suicidal Tendencies. Stints with Prince and Stevie Wonder would also become beacons of light for his exploration in many music spheres. As a 2011 Grammy Award winner for best contemporary jazz album, he's since worked with iconic artists such as Stanley Clarke, Chaka Khan, Flying Lotus, Kenny Garrett, and Alan Holdsworth. The acclaim would continue into the 2010s, featuring on the highly praised Kendrick Lamar album To Pimp A Butterfly and one of its lead out singles. Ronald launched his debut album Triumph on World Galaxy / Alpha Pup Records in spring of 2017, featuring Mac Miller, Thundercat, George Duke, Taylor Graves, and Danielle Withers. Ronald has recently been touring the world with artists such as Chaka Khan and Kamasi Washington and is finishing up work on his sophomore album for World Galaxy / Alpha Pup Records. With a mix kicking off with a track from his album alongside his brother Thundercat and featuring just some of his influences, he told us; "This is only the beginning of the depth of me!" - Ronald Bruner Jr. The Solid Steel website http://solidsteel.net/ for track lists and archive shows. ‘Brookland Suite’ is inspired by Micha Acher travels to New Orleans and Johannes Enders’ admiration for Gil Evans soundscapes. The unique instrumentation and the rough sound make Brookland a very special Suite for lovers of deep sounds. Johannes Enders is a saxophone player with his own distinguished voice, and a rich international performing experience, covering gigs with artists as diverse as Donald Byrd, Jeff Watts, Roy Hargrove, Vincent Herring, George Cables, Lester Bowie and Jamaaladeen Tacuma. He won a Silver Award at the American MusicFest in San Francisco (1990) and was finalist at the Monk Competition in Washington D.C. (1991) and won the German “Jazz Echo” prize as best sax player. Micha Acher is best known as a founding member of innovative German postrock band The Notwist. Enders and Acher grew up together in Weilheim, a small town near Munich. Already back in 1992 they played together in the electro/free jazz band Tied & Tickled Trio (with Billy Hart). Now they decided it’s time for another collaboration. For ‘Brookland Suite’ they invited New Orleans based sax player Dan Oestereicher and drummer Howard Curtis from Washington to join them.
