In April of 2008, we at Sub Pop Records had the good fortune to release the US version of Antidotes, the debut album by Oxford, UK quintet Foals. Antidotes was a special album. Two years on from that impressive introduction, a choice has been made–-rather than contort Antidotes’ lithesome guitars into ever more elaborate patterns, Total Life Forever is the sound of a band settling into and surveying the decay of old protocols. With this new album, Foals strip their sound back and turn themselves inside out searching for that invisible human thing. The result is an album as persuasive emotionally as Antidotes was physically. Whereas that album constantly reinforced its own presence by filling the air with yelping and polyrhythm, tracks on Total Life Forever such as disarming opener “Blue Blood,” “2 Trees” and the astonishing “Black Gold” are happier to leave gaps for the listener to explore in mind’s ear and eye. Written primarily in the basement of their Oxford HQ (“The House of Supreme Mathematics”) and recorded in Gothenburg with former Clor man Luke Smith, Total Life Forever finds Foals singing rather than shouting, emotional as well as functional. The band’s soul-search reveals new antidotes found in infinite, internal spaces rather than carved violently upon the air–-Total Life Forever feels more the work of artists than artisans. It’s a triumph that they’ve managed to remain a band of progress and propulsion while investigating that vast, dark space lurking inside themselves-–that gap between ribs where “nature, or god or whatever you wanna call it, will come in.” Released: June 15, 2010 1. First single off our upcoming EP, "Uh Oh!". Tour dates (US/Europe): www.tennyson.rocks/ Stream / Buy: smarturl.it/TennyCryBird Video: youtu.be/CBXhrHyMZYM Artwork by Toronto street artist Al Runt. Lyrics: When all is calm, a bird from afar The bleeding song of all that we are If you go I'm running after you And it goes oh, oh Can we go home? On wagon rides, our tingling toes Back alley skies, the wind in our clothes Run it back, back to the start of our song Cry bird And all the calls of Popsicle bells In blanket forts with oil pastels Run it back, back to the start of our song 'Cause it goes oh, oh Can we go home, home? x2 (Will it ever be the same again?) (How much does it take?) (Could it ever be the same again?) (How much does it take?) Can't you live your life without it? Put it all behind. I'd like to believe that in our life we're guided By the first few lines So what're you waiting for? Sure you always talk about it But your word's never sure Don't you know? Home is not what you call it If you're scared to go Got yourself binoculars Looking for a home, yeah Can't you see you're looking for The mountain that you're on? You'll know it Got no doubt about it Don't you know it's fine? This puzzle wasn't always complicated The journey is the home you're looking for

If i could flee from winter, here and now, i would go back to where it, all began, you and me. We were together on an, isle of love, the sun was shining for us, (ev’ry day), from above. We ran along the beach and, you kissed me, then we went for a swim like, in my dreams. (Refrain) Under the palm tree, is where we danced tonight, back then it felt like, a rollercoaster ride. Under the palm tree, is where i found my love, your skin on my skin, i couldn’t get enough. (Verse 2) Right now i wait for spring so bad, it hurts, my days are lonely cause you, ran away, no goodbyes. I guess for you all this was, just a flirt, but I will never forget, your sweet face, your green eyes. The smell of your warm skin was, like a drug, i lay beside you and were, (so bewitched), so damn high, If you could only give me one last hug, but i suppose you found, another guy. (Refrain) Under the palm tree, is where we danced tonight, back then it felt like, a rollercoaster ride. Under the palm tree, is where i found my love, your skin on my skin, i couldn’t get enough.

The first love song we've ever made. Dedicated to all those we love (you know who you are), and the ones we will love one day. Music Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1UNiPnIIVg Love Verse 1: God sent an angel my way Heaven in her gaze But you killed her just to suck some face Caught between your legs yet eating my own heart out You roll your eyes; I still don’t got it down Amalgamations of the sea, and sky, and the rainy, moony night that you have been denied Cause its impossible, to have everything at once And every single word that seems to exit out your mouth, seems to hurt, embrace, console, and sprout Hypocrisy; breathing down my fucking neck till I’m out Interlude: You say it’s you, not me I guess we weren’t meant to be Pre-verse 2: Get a grip You’re twenty-something Crying over someone else Verse 2: I see the kids like you more than me Is it cause you buy them expensive shit and tell them I’m a bitch? Should’ve opted for a prenup, but we didn’t dare to think back when we were young I pray that my baby boy isn’t his father’s son My girl will stand so proud No man will hold her down Section 3: Oh, I’ve seen these shows, and I’ve heard these jokes before All emotions, all the places we’ve explored Shared the pain, shared the strain, shared the loss more than the gain “We made it work”, just isn’t worth it anymore Section 4: That spark in those photographs, we’ll crave Cause we know it’s gone away The sex isn’t good anymore, and the kisses don’t feel like they felt I see the gray hairs on top your head, and the dimness in your eyes Those wrinkles, those spots, and that grin, what could be more than this? What’s more to love than this? Outro: In the end, all’s left is love (x 4) Composed, Written, Produced, And Engineered, by Woman & Savages Artwork by Syed Abeq
'Her Majesty II' is taken from The Green Child's self-titled debut album out January 12th through Upset The Rhythm. Available to pre-order here now: upsettherhythm.bigcartel.com/ Artist: The Green Child Title: The Green Child Label: Upset The Rhythm Catalogue Number: UTR102 Release Date: Friday 12 January Track listing: 01. Traveler 02. Her Majesty II 03. Bertha 04. New Years Eve 05. 46 Timelines 06. Walking Distance 07. Marie Elene 08. Destroyer The Green Child is the long distance musical collaboration of Mikey Young and Raven Mahon, who met in 2013 when their bands, Total Control and Grass Widow played a show in Oakland, California. They started writing songs together in Australia in 2014 and the project has been on a slow burn since. Their self-titled debut album is the culmination of few years of putting ideas together internationally and periodically recording in Mikey's home studio. Some of the lyrical content and the band's name was inspired by Herbert Read's 1935 utopian, communist, sci-fi novel called The Green Child. With such a choice name, it’s no surprise that The Green Child draw their sound from an illusory past as much as they stalk into pastures new. Broadly retro-futuristic in scope, verdant acres of lushly evocative synthesizers and blippy drum machines underpin most of their upbeat yet decidedly uncanny songs. Raven’s calmly scenic and measured vocal flits like a will-o’-the-wisp throughout the tracks, proffering a guiding hand as she walks us through the often eerie, electronic concoctions. ‘Traveler’ opens the album all redolent, beat-minded and labyrinthine. Twisting melody lines swirl and envelop like a sandstorm, whilst Raven coolly projects on a “solitary man” lost to “green oblivion”. Similarly, ‘Her Majesty II’ glistens with its playful yet plaintive vocal and iridescent arpeggios, whilst ‘Bertha’ slows things down with tumbling chimes and stately use of space. The Green Child are adept at atmosphere, their songs are refined from gently unfolding ideas that never fail to realise and build to their potential. Tracks like ‘Walking Distance’ (featuring Al Montfort on saxophone) and ‘New Years Eve’ are exercises in evolved composition with ideas budding off and blossoming into truly resonant dimensions. The band’s cover of ‘Marie Elene’ (by Keith Pearson) and closing track ‘Destroyer’ are further crowning achievements, both pieces subtly handled with poise and ample melancholic grandeur. The Green Child fix their sights on the heights they want to reach within their songs and much like the project itself don’t want to rush to the finish line. When it becomes more about the unfurling journey, why not take the time to enjoy the trip and burn slower? ‘The Green Child’ is due for release on January 12th through Upset The Rhythm on 180g black vinyl, accompanied by some spirited sleeve design by James Vinciguerra.
Lyrics: Don't want the world to know I'm by myself Don't want the world to know I'm on your shelf But if you want to try at all Stay for the night, tell you why nothing's right if you're gone Stay for the night, if it's all a lie, I wouldn't mind if you're wrong Stay for the night, we've been alright for so long There's no coloring around us anymore You either know or you don't Don't want the world to know what makes me weak Don't want the world to know that side of me When I never even leave Stay for the night, tell you why nothing's right if you're gone Stay for the night, if it's all a lie, I wouldn't mind if you're wrong Stay for the night, we've been alright for so long There's no coloring around us anymore You either know or you don't Don't try your best to stall Stay for the night, tell you why nothing's right if you're gone Stay for the night, if it's all a lie, I wouldn't mind if you're wrong Stay for the night, we've been alright for so long There's no coloring around us anymore You either know or you don't \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Music and Lyrics by Kevin Garrett Produced by Jeremy McDonald Co-Produced by Kevin Garrett Engineered by Oliver Straus Assisted by Kevin Germain Mixed by Ryan Gilligan Mastered by Joe LaPorta Artwork by Kelly Garrett
‘B.Miles is set to turn heads with her angelic voice’– Earmilk With previous singles ‘Nine Matches’ and ‘Shaking Hands’ both charting high on the Hype Machine, dark pop artist B. Miles returns with her new single, ‘Salt’, on 24th August. Brimming with bluesy riffs and percussive clicks, bathed in her signature soulful vocals, ‘Salt’ - which was co-written with Eric Nizgretsky of indie rock group Loose Buttons - is as lyrically evocative as it is melodically sublime. The Los Angeles native says of her new track: “When we were recording "Salt" in New York City, I began getting really homesick for L.A., and as a result, I really wanted this song to remind me of home. On top of that, I had these second degree burns all over my arms and hands at the time. Lyrically, I just imagined salt being poured into the wounds.” An artist whose talents have already been praised by the likes of Earmilk, Hilly Dilly and Q Magazine, and prompted comparisons to London Grammar and Banks, B. Miles first crafted her songwriting in Miami, aiming to capture ‘the essence of melancholy and yearning, while finding beauty in the sadness and pain that all of us carry inside’. Partnered with the atmospheric electronics of production duo Noise Club, best known for their work with Wild Belle and the Spin Magazine-approved Quigley, this young act has now developed a powerful sound that honours a pop aesthetic whilst retaining a bold originality. ‘Salt’ will feature alongside her previous two previous singles on her forthcoming EP ‘twenty fifteen’, which is set to hit all digital stores soon. With a growing host of admirers, B. Miles as a true ‘one to watch’ this year.
